Luray is just off the Skyline around mile 33 (we were
counting down from 105), it has a great location between the Blue Ridge
mountains and the mountains of George
Washington State
Park . We
had booked a cabin here for 4 days and it was nice after our 1 stop
motels. The cabin was owned by a local
farm and sat on the river banks. It was
on stilts and had a lovely hot tub under the building which our aching muscles
really appreciated.
Weather was disappointing as it rain all day on our first
day in Luray so no walking in the mountains. We had to make do
with stroll around the shops and warming
up in coffee shops. We did make a great purchase as we decided to go barefoot - look weird but strangely comfortable.
Thankfully it cleared up the next day and we were able to
head off into Shenandoah
National Park . This time we walked from the bottom to the
top of the highest waterfall, great walk and only saw a handful of people, nice
that we saw some people at the top whilst pouring with sweat who were able to
take our photo!

For our final day in the mountains we had a rest from
walking and went kayaking down the Shenandoah River, unfortunately no photos as
we did not have our waterproof camera with us and it was recommended not to
take a camera which was a very good recommendation as within the first 30
minutes we hit some rapids and we were soaked along with everything in the
boat! Great fun and beautiful countryside
to finish off an eventful couple of weeks.
Just one final quick video of the view of the very full river from our cabin (http://www.ganderislandcabins.com/) and also of our neighbours, there were just the 2 cabins and the one next to us was only occupied for a couple of days so we had the place to ourselves.
