Atlantic Highlands - Bagels and friends

Our time in Atlantic Highlands was frustrating as the weather was terrible and delayed the plans we had to make progress south.  We tried to make the most of the stay, but there were days when it was so windy that we could not even leave the boat and we had various days when it rained and rained and rained!

Look at the rain!

One day we headed ashore in the dingy for a morning run, it was hard work docking the dingy with the wind blown swell which was making it’s way across the harbour but we were ashore and had remained dry.  We plodded off on our run, quite nice to get to see some more of the place, we ran around the residential roads overlooking the harbour, noticing that even though it was only early October the gardens were full of Halloween.  On our return dingy journey we got soaked by sea water and with the wind it was freezing, we were not going out for the rest of the day in those conditions.

On arrival there was one other boat anchored in the harbour, Kenlana, on our second day at anchor, Jay from Kenlana rowed over to ask if we fancied a drink later that afternoon, so later that day Mark popped over.  Jay was then kind enough to ask us for dinner later in the week and we reciprocated and we enjoyed sharing a stories of cruising over a few drinks.  Jay was so welcoming and it was nice to have a few evenings of entertainment in what was a very frustrating week just waiting for the bad weather to pass.

On the days we were able to get off the boat, we had a couple of runs but our main activity was a visit to the Atlantic Bagel Company, which was on the High Street.  The staff were amazingly friendly, the wifi was good and the drinks/food were cheap or as they say here inexpensive.

We were lucky to get shelter from the awful weather and Atlantic Highlands is a nice little place but we were glad to move on.
